Building activity into your routine

Getting active doesn’t need to be about doing traditional exercises. It can just be about doing things that fit into your daily routine, as and when you can. Building activity into your regular routine is one of the best ways you can start to build a new habit.

Activity Routine

Here are a few ways you can get moving as part of your daily routine:

  • Walking to and from the supermarket.

  • Taking the stairs at work or at home.

  • Walking your dog around the block.

  • Turning a TV ad break into a Five in Five session.

  • Stretching while the kettle boils.

Any of these activities, or one of the many others could be your way of moving. These little changes can all add up to long term benefits.

Many people find that being active fits naturally into spending time with those that they live with – such as family, housemates, and pets – and helps with keeping motivated.

There are tools like the Active 10 app that can help you analyse the way you integrate activities into your routine. Check these out in our Resources.
