Multiple organisations have joined forces with Brighton & Hove City Council to launch a local We Are Undefeatable campaign this week.
The campaign brings together Brighton & Hove City Council, Active Sussex and organisations from across the city to inspire residents to move more and make the most of opportunities to be active in their local area.
Eight local storytellers lead the campaign
Launched on the 28th September, Brighton & Hove’s campaign will feature stories from eight local residents, each living with a different long-term health condition. Kicking off the campaign is Eugene, who has osteoporosis and has made attending exercise sessions in Moulsecoomb part of his routine to improve his strength.
Watch Eugene's inspiring story below.
Eugene is the first of eight storytellers featured in the campaign. Other residents living with long-term health conditions are also encouraged to share their experiences of finding ways to build movement into their daily routines.
As well as these stories, the campaign will include website content, social media posts and posters at bus stops and GP surgeries. The council is also working with local newspapers and radio stations to help raise awareness of the campaign.
The national We Are Undefeatable campaign supports localised campaigns like this by offering promotional materials, research, insight and real stories of people living with long-term health conditions.
Commenting on the campaign, Councillor Mitchie Alexander, Cabinet Member for Communities, Equalities, Public Health and Adult Social Care, said:
“We know that living with a long-term health condition can make it harder to be active, but even small amounts of movement can make a real difference. This is why we’re proud to support the We Are Undefeatable campaign… Hearing directly from our local storytellers at the launch event was incredibly powerful… It has been fantastic to work with partners across the city, Active Sussex and the national We Are Undefeatable team.”
